Documenting every Buddhist temple in Thailand — free and open forever.
Thai Temple Archive is an independent non-commercial project dedicated to photographing, researching and documenting every Buddhist temple in Thailand.
There are over 40,000 Buddhist temples across the country — from ancient royal wats in Bangkok to forgotten shrines hidden deep in rural provinces. Many have never been systematically photographed. Some are quietly disappearing.
We are building the most complete free database of Thai Buddhist temples ever assembled: photographs, GPS coordinates, addresses, architectural descriptions, historical records and practical visitor information for every temple we find.
No ads. No paywalls. Open to everyone, forever.
Every temple entry includes:
- 📍 GPS coordinates and full address
- 🏛️ Architectural style and classification
- 📅 Year founded and historical background
- 🕐 Visiting hours and entry fees
- 📸 Photography documentation
- 📖 Historical notes and cultural context
Currently documenting temples in:
- Bangkok — Royal temples and historic wats of the capital
- Chonburi / Pattaya — Expeditions beginning 2026
- All 77 provinces — Long-term goal
