Installed vmware-tools-patches but video settings not adjusting to display

So i just did a fresh install of arch linux and I cloned the vmware-tools-patched and ran through the install process.

After I reboot, i noticed that the video options are not adjusting to my screen. I have to change my resolution via xrandr and even then there are black bards on both sides of the screen.

Any suggests?

I am having the exact same issue on manjaro; what kernel are you on? I am on 5.10 which is not listed as supported, could this be the issue?
