When built with Go 1.26 and GOEXPERIMENT=simd, the amd64 unpacking kernels
are implemented with the experimental
simd/archsimd package instead of the
hand-written assembly. The algorithms are the same; the Go versions are
maintainable, feature-gated by the compiler, and can be inlined and
instrumented like regular Go code.
GOEXPERIMENT=simd GOAMD64=v3 go build ./...The experiment must be enabled by the final consumer's build; without it (or
on other architectures) the assembly and pure Go implementations are used,
unchanged. Building with GOAMD64=v3 (or v4) is recommended for the simd
paths. Since the archsimd implementations are pure Go, they are also used
when building with -tags=purego under the experiment.
