A few things pop into my mind, they might not be appropriate for this post but rather some followup posts

I am not at a FINTEC org, but I have a very long history of working at open source friendly companies. There are countless examples in the industry that could be drawn upon to show some examples of success. Red Hat is one of the easiest, but there are plenty of others such as Elastic, Google, even Microsoft is all in on open source lately. Everything from open source business models like Red Hat to Meta releasing React as an open source project getting a ton of external contributions (kubernetes is a similar story)

The other angle that could be worth exploring is the DoD software factories. Platform One is the most visible example of this probably https://p1.dso.mil/
They are doing some of the things you mention around collaboration, maintenance, and centralization to reduce duplication
