OSU-Bee-Lab/filesync

Repository files navigation

WARNING - this is an internal tool

This tool was developed for internal use by the OSU Bee Lab. It has been hard-coded to work with our computer (Ubuntu), our recorders (Sony ICD-PX370), our file structure (experiments are organized according to our schema), and even our USB hubs (Tccmebius TCC-T310U). We cannot promise that the program is functional, stable, or safe for your files. Documentation may be horribly out of date or incorrect.

This said, we want to make the path to bioacoustics as painless as possible for other labs. With this in mind, we are making this repository public for you to copy and modify as fits your purposes! If you find filesync useful, let us know! It is currently beyond our scope of work to rework it into a general-purpose tool, but that could change if it would benefit other researchers.

filesync

A utility for mass offloading of audio data from recorders used in passive acoustic monitoring studies.

Nota bene

  • filesync can only sync devices to a single experiment subdirectory per-session. E.g., if you have collected recorders from two sites and want to store the data for each site in a different directory, you'll need to run two filesync sessions. Keep this in mind when collecting your recorders!
  • At the moment, filesync only works with our Sony recorders and (in GUI mode) with our beloved Tccmebius USB hubs.
