Welcome to Material Swapper Framework. If you're a mod author, this guide will teach you about how to make mods that use MSF.

A material in the context of MSF is slightly different from a material in Skyrim/Creation Kit/xEdit. In MSF, a material references the record that contains rendering values that are typically bound to a TriShape like textures, specular values, alpha, etc.

Requirements

  • A working Skyrim installation, doesn't matter how big. Only 1.5.97 and 1.6.1170 have been tested on.
  • A text editor of your choice for JSON files. While Notepad is sufficient enough, one more geared towards coding is preferred like Notepad++ or VS Code.
  • NifSkope or Outfit Studio to make default materials more easily editable.

Next up is the types of files MSF uses.
