Toggle Above

A minimal GNOME Shell extension to instantly pin windows to the top.

Overview

A pin button in the top bar toggles Always on Top for the focused window. Click to pin it above everything, click again to release.

<sub>Default: normal window stacking.

Note

You can easily reposition the button using extensions like Top Bar Organizer Plus.

Requirements

• GNOME Shell 50 (not tested on lower versions)

Installation

Clone the repository directly into your GNOME extensions directory:

git clone https://github.com/ITx-prash/toggle-above.git ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/toggle-above@itx-prash

Important

If you are on Wayland, you must log out and log back in for the system to recognize the new extension. If you are on X11, you can simply restart your GNOME Shell session (Alt+F2, type r, and press Enter).

Once the shell is restarted or you log back in, enable the extension:

gnome-extensions enable toggle-above@itx-prash
