## Tree Cover Density Analysis in line with the EU Nature Restoration Regulation

The EU Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) places strong emphasis on protecting, restoring, and enhancing Europe’s forested and tree dominated ecosystems, which are vital for biodiversity, climate mitigation, and human well being. Monitoring progress toward these objectives requires consistent, harmonized, and reliable baseline data. The Tree Cover Density (TCD) layer from the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service provides such a foundational dataset, offering quantitative information on the degree of tree cover across Europe. This layer supports the identification and assessment of tree rich areas, enabling Member States and stakeholders to monitor landscape changes, track improvements in canopy cover, and carry out evidence based planning aligned with NRR targets.

## Products

In view of the Green Space Monitoring in line with the EU Nature Restoration Regulation OHB-DS can provide
- Geospatial data products at 10m spatial resolution (e.g. geoTiffs) as well as map layers to identify tree cover density and their dynamics for any area of interest (e.g. the administrative boundary of Vienna).
- Quantify tree cover density in square kilometers for any area of interest (e.g. the administrative boundary of Vienna or on district-level) and their dynamics with JSON out formats.
- Model-based tree cover detection at 50cm spatial resolution which requires initial training with annotated datasets (e.g. LiDAR data) and then application on high resolution satellite data (arbitrary frequency, such as monthly analysis).

In general, the products can be delivered in all common geospatial data formats and interfaces supporting integration into external systems (as the EOX platform or proprietary solutions). As in intermediate layer access to these products can be provided by the existing interface https://vegetation.urbanview.ohb-ds.de/. Please contact ingo.schoolmann@ohb-ds.de in case access, adaptations or customization of the products is of interest.
