Fixed it on my machine

When I've installed my linux mint partition I've turned on filesystem encryption for user directory.

It turns out Linux Mint installs the home directory using a filesystem type called ecryptfs (an encrypted user filesystem).
This filesystem sits on top of the main Linux Mint ext4 filesystem, which is supported by xtool and Swift’s filesystem frameworks — but ecryptfs doesn’t behave exactly like ext4 and has several filename and path limitations. These limitations can cause issues when working with Swift SDKs.

General Solution for Linux Mint

Turn off file encryption somehow (I don't know if it's even possible)

What fixed it for me

I built my Darwin SDK outside the user’s home directory, since the home directory is the part using ecryptfs.
I recommend building it somewhere like /tmp or any directory outside /home/{username}.

After building it:

In your home directory (~), create the subdirectory:
.swiftpm/swift-sdks

Move your generated darwin.artifactbundle folder into that directory.
(File transfer may take up to 5 minutes.)

That’s it!
This fixed the issue for me — hopefully it helps you too.

What this won’t fix

You still won’t be able to fully build your apps because of the same underlying filesystem issue.
Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
