I use Whatsapp-for-Linux v1.6.5 on ubuntu-desktop 20.04 x64.
Often I need to save a lot of pictures from a whatsapp-group on to my computer, often to a deeply nested location in the file-system, so I click on the image and use "Save image as..."
On my desktop linux (default gnome), this opens a dialog to let me choose the destination location (default is the home directory) and the default destination-filename is blank.
If I choose a different destination-location it saves the image to that location correctly, and I always type in a new filename (I don't mind that the proposed filename is blank in my case).
But, if I want to save dozens of pictures to the same location, Whatsapp-for-linux never remembers the previous destination-location , so I have to use multiple clicks for each image to be saved in order to choose the same destination-location as last time . I want to save individually as I use a naming-convention, i.e. I don't want to save the group in one go with default file-names.
It would be much more user friendly (and consistent with the Microsoft-Windows Whatsapp app) if by default whatsapp-for-linux remembered the most recent destination-location (if there is one) and offered this location as the default-destination-location for each new image during 'Save image as...' .
I would not expect that destination-location to be persistent however, in other words I would only expect whatsapp-for-linux to remember the most recent destination-location while whatsapp-for-linux is running, so if it got stopped and restarted then no memory of previous destination-location would be necessary, although that would not be a problem either should it become persistent.
On the Microsoft-Windows desktop whatsapp , it remembers the most recent destination for "Save As...", and it also proposes a default filename that includes a timestamp. But the whatsapp-for-linux proposed filename, at least for me, is always blank, and the app does not remember the most recent destination for saved images.
