image broken on localhost

Hi,

Why is the image ../../assets/houston.webp broken on localhost but not during deployment? How do I fix this on localhost?

This is happening in index.mdx

Would you be able to provide a small reproduction of the issue, e.g. using StackBlitz. Following this link will automatically create a workspace with Astro and Starlight already installed so you can focus only on reproducing the issue.

Could be extra helpful to share the specific environment here too. There's a bug specifically with the newest version of Astro that could maybe be the culprit: withastro/astro#15042

Hi @HiDeoo and @delucis, on Stack Blitz, perhaps because it also runs in the cloud like the GitHub/Cloudflare Pages deployment, this image problem doesn't occur, but it does on localhost. I recorded a short video: https://youtu.be/61Lnt_YOPzw

A few follow-up questions:

1. Would you be able to run the npx astro info command and share the output?

2. When you say localhost, are you running npm run dev or npm run build && npm run preview?

3. In StackBlitz, there is a download button:

   

   If you download that project locally from StackBlitz, unzip it, go to the docs/ folder, run npm i, and then run npm run dev, does the issue still occur in this new instance of your project?

I personally tested the StackBlitz version you shared locally and it's working fine for me when running either npm run dev or npm run build && npm run preview (hence the extra questions to help figuring out the potential issue).

3. I downloaded it using Stack Blitz and replaced the docs folder, but I got the same broken image result. I can't figure out what's wrong with my local setup.

Thanks, I am not on a Linux machine right now to test but I should be able to get to one during the week-end and see if I can reproduce the issue.

Just tested on Linux (EndeavourOS) and did not manage to reproduce the issue.

I am tempted to think this might be a specific issue with your setup as I would guess other Linux users would have reported it by now.

I don't think this could be a browser-specific issue but for sanity, may be worth testing in a different browser, in incognito/private mode with all extensions disabled.
