Dynamic metadata in the project section

The PEP621 allows you to specify certain project metadata as dynamic. See the official example here.

[project]
dynamic = ["version"]

The build back-end should have some logic to generate the dynamic version. In setuptools this can be achieved by:

[tool.setuptools.dynamic]
version = { file = "VERSION" }

It parse the file VERSION.

How can py-build-cmake generate dynamic version and other metadata?

I see from the example that you can use __version__ attribute in root __init__.py to do dynamic versioning. It would maybe a good idea to explain this in the documentation?

That would be a really useful feature. I also tried using the current approach (import version from the module), but in our project, we import other third-party modules in init.py, and the build step fails because of that(

Basic support was added in c80f20f, but I haven't found the time to create a proper release yet.
