Install to disc release updates?

I have spent more time working with this as of late, I have managed to achieve what I wanted with file storage in regards to Docker. I then figured out that the 2.11.5 release can be installed to a web server, after some time figuring out what it is I was wanting to do.

Will that version still be receiving updates? I don't mind docker all that much, a little resource hungry from my experiences. I love what you are doing here btw, this is the closest I have been able to get to hosting something like this. I only ask because the 2.11.5 version with my web server doesn't seem to allow a MySQL connection, I believe it to be user error but I might be wrong.

2.11 is still getting bugfixes ("doesn't work with mysql" is definitely a bug worth fixing, if it's a problem in shimmie and not somewhere in the server's setup). New features are going towards 2.12 (which I plan to release as soon as it's down to "zero known bugs", but every time I get down to "one known bug", somebody reports a new one, so it's taking longer than I'd like 😅 )

2.11 definitely should work with mysql, what errors are you getting when you try?

Understandable, felt the need to ask. Take your time, bug hunting is very important.

So when I run shish2k/shimmie2:latest and set things up in Docker, I select the MySQL and type in the information that is needed and it works without flaw. I tried this a few hours in fact and it was able to connect to the database on my NAS without issue. However when I grabbed the 2.11.5 from the release tab and followed these instructions https://github.com/shish/shimmie2/wiki/Install I didnt do Composer because I frankly was a touched confused on how to set that up for my system, moved to grabbed the release and then extracted the files directly in the root directly of the folder I created for it. I was able to connect like I have done before but when I went to setup the database, exactly the same way I did with Docker, it failed entirely. I just reinstalled it all and started with fresh files, same error.

I sadly don't know what else to go look for, I am still relatively new to coding and still learning things here and there.
I did make sure to point it correctly with the right IPs, I did figure out how to do some of this earlier before trying this like I said above.

Gah, either the web server or the browser seem to be supplying their own error message, replacing whatever is coming out of Shimmie (which should be trying to tell you what's actually going wrong) >.<

Can you see if there's a more detailed error in the web server logs? Where those are depends on your operating system and web server -- if it's apache running on debian or ubuntu linux that's normally somewhere in /var/log (maybe /var/log/apache/error.log, maybe /var/log/httpd/); other web servers or operating systems might be elsewhere

I sadly don't know how to help you here unfortunately. I have absolutely no idea if my system even logs web server errors, if there is anyone else here running a QNAP NAS web server having this issue, please chime in. I wish I could help you more.

So I have a question, regarding this topic. How important is the requirement of Image Magick? I ask because I cant easily install it on the system I am running, if its a hard requirement then it might explain my issue with connecting to the database? I don't know for sure but I do know that I can set it up with SQLite, I haven't tried uploading anything to it after though. I also noticed it doesn't have an option for Postgre for this setup variant of Shimmie for me, it is for the matching docker version.

Imagemagick and databases are completely unrelated things

For image manipulation (most importantly, thumbnail generation) the options are GD or imagemagick. GD supports common file formats (png, gif, jpeg) in common sizes (as much as the server can hold in RAM). ImageMagick supports many more obscure formats, and can handle images larger than what fits in RAM.

Database options presented in the install screen will depend on which database drivers you have installed; eg on debian/ubuntu you'd want the php-pgsql package to be installed for connecting to postgres
