Segments in use

I just updated this great piece of software from version 2.3 to 3.4.0.
I notice that segments are used a lot, but I prefer to save the entire clip in mp4 format with create_event_clip: true.
It would be interesting if viseron use mp4 playback for events with a specific config line and delete segments to free up disk space after event is done and the mp4 is concatenated.
This would allow only the segments used for the active part of Viseron (ffmpeg, AI detectors) to be stored on disk or in RAM.

If this is already possible, I haven't found the instructions in the documentation, but perhaps I haven't looked properly.

There is no way to do that currently. The problem is that the segments are needed in order for the new timeline/events pages to work, mp4 files cannot be used for that purpose.

Why do you need mp4s? Maybe there is another way to achieve what you are after

mp4 files allows me to store the entire event in files that I recursively copy to another storage device for backup purposes.
In the old version, if Im not mistaken, events were read from mp4 files in the web interface.
I suppose segments are a faster and more concise way to retrieve video clips linked to event timestamps, but this doubles the local storage consumption.

Segments are needed to support 24/7 recordings, there is no way to do that with giant MP4s.

If it is just for backup reasons, can't you just copy the segments instead?
