Description

Build a notification system to keep users informed about platform activity, updates, and relevant events.

Problem

• No way to notify users of events
• Cannot communicate updates
• Users miss important activity
• No engagement prompts

Proposed Solution

Multi-channel notification system:

• In-app notifications
• Email notifications
• Optional push notifications
• Notification preferences

Tasks

• Design notification data model
• Create Notification schema in database
• Build notification service layer
• Implement in-app notification UI (bell icon, dropdown)
• Add notification preferences page
• Set up email service (SendGrid, Resend, or similar)
• Create email templates for notifications
• Implement notification triggers (new follower, comment, etc.)
• Add mark as read/unread functionality
• Implement notification grouping
• Add push notification support (optional)
• Create notification history page
• Implement real-time notifications with WebSocket

Success Criteria

• Users receive timely notifications
• Email delivery works reliably
• Users can manage preferences
• Notifications are actionable
