[BUG] v2.0.4 Not Working with Linux Mint 21.1 (Cinnamon 5.6.8)

Hey, hope all's well.

I just upgraded from v1.7.6 (was originally getting via Applets) to v2.0.4, but unfortunately discovered that v2.0.4 doesn't seem to work with Linux Mint 21.1 x86_64 (Cinnamon 5.6.8).

Uninstalled Redshift, reloaded the app - then rebooted - but, still no luck. I then reset the configuration file by deleting the current file (/home/USER/.config/cinnamon/spices/qredshift@quintao/qredshift@quintao.json) as suggested in Tips (help section of app), then reloaded, e.t.c, but no luck there either.

Thankfully, you can revert back to v1.7.6 if you uninstall everything, reboot, then re-install via Linux Mint's Applets.

Thanks, but my Cinnamon version is 6.0.4 (i.e. much earlier) and its nearly impossible to update (Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04).
Given that people report its very hard to completely remove a (newer) version of qredshift, I'm hesitant to update it manually.

I don't see any problem. At least you can revert to v1.7.6.
The new applet suggests you remove the Redshift package, but you really don't need to, just make sure it's not running.

However, I really don't understand why it shouldn't work. The new version is much simpler and more lightweight. I'm sure it must be something very specific to users setup perhaps wrong permissions, incorrect group membership, or a conflict with another application.

I'm NOT claiming a new version doesn't work. Haven't tried it yet.

You can remove from the applet interface.
Or just delete it manually from:

~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets/ - Delete the folder qredshift@quintao, this is the applet.
~/.config/cinnamon/spices - Delete the folder qredshift@quintao, this is the settings.

You can copy your current settings and applet to some backup folder if you want, or just install it normally from ui.

Remove it from panel before deleting it.

I haven't tried v2.0.4 since I made this post, and would be hesitant to try now incase I can't revert back (QRedshift is an important program for me).

It's very easy to go back. Really, don't need to remove Redshift with apt, so rollback is quick.
Just replace, as I said.
As I said in the previous post, I really can't think of something that will make it not work.
The version was made exactly for that...

Let me know if you try... If won't work, we can go deeply to see what happening.

Only real problem I know is that some people is getting some small freezes with auto refresh too small or even only enabled.
I'm working to improve that.
Funny thing is that I know why it can happen. I tried 4 machines... doesn't happen with me, even with 3 seconds... I will improve the loop, but... can't really test... 🤣️
I tried in a very old Core 2 Duo, smoothly... Things are not easy...
I will be more close here for now, by the way...
