When I sudo brut, I can view a list of USB devices.

When I brut, entry of the same passphrase in the GUI results in:

This should be a sudo issue.

Are you sure, you gave your user permissions in the sudo config file?
/usr/local/etc/sudoers is responsible here. You can try on the console "sudo whoami" for a test.
