AVIF support on Windows

Hi, I'm not very tech savvy.

I have a bunch of .avif files that I want to scan on czkawka or krokiet, which none (apparently) support avif files. I tried windows_krokiet_on_windows_all_backends without much success, it can't even delete a file for some reason. I tried using WSL just to notice that none of the builds support avif files.

How can I make it work, preferably on Windows with GUI?

I met the same problem, but GPT 5.2 helped me analyze the source code,and found that the default releases didn't use the avif feature. So I modified the "windows.yml" to use the feature, and got the binary file I need. Is this is why none of the thousand avif files I generated recently matched their sources with the similar images feature?

I've also just run into krokiet not supporting avif files. Only noticed when it didn't find similar images I knew were there. Unfortunately, quite a few of my images are avif now.

I'm using the windows_krokiet_on_linux.exe build as suggested for a newcomer on the releases page. (version 11.0.1.0).

Checking back there I note the legend indicates

heif, raw, avif – additional features that require extra libraries installed on the OS

So fair enough, it seems clear the build I used doesn't support avif (yet).

@qarmin, I also tried the windows_krokiet_on_windows_all_backends.exe build, however it was crashing on my machine. The Windows Event Log recorded:

Let me know if you'd like me to create a new issue for that. If I should have used a different build or installed an external library, I'm afraid I didn't manage to work that out and I didn't want to just randomly try things (the options bifurcate rather quickly! :) ).

There are no prebuilt AVIF versions of the application because no one has contributed support for that yet. Compiling on Windows is significantly more difficult than on other operating systems. AVIF is available through an unofficial MSYS2 port: https://packages.msys2.org/base/mingw-w64-czkawka

Debugging crashes on Windows is very challenging, so I generally avoid it. In most cases, the root cause is a broken operating system or faulty drivers, which is outside my control.
