The question of "Calling PyPI "PyPI" is technically inaccurate and confusable with PyPy, so can't we just go ahead and change it to something more correct?" keeps coming up, and the answer is "No", but the reason why it's "No" isn't obvious at first glance: it isn't PyPI itself or even the Python packaging user guide and the core Python documentation that's the problem, since we can change all those fairly readily - it's things like Stack Overflow, and Linux distro documentation, and books on Python, and Jfrog Artifactory, and Sonatype Nexus, and release-monitoring.org, and libraries.io, etc, etc. It wouldn't necessarily be impossible to change the name, but it would be a lot of work for questionable benefit (we don't have the resources to properly user test alternate names to see if they're actually less confusing to newcomers that have never even heard of PyPy, or appreciate the subtle nuances distinguishing a repository from an index or a package from a project).

The naming of "distutils-sig" would fall into a similar "Not worth the hassle" category, at least for the time being.

At the moment, we don't really have anywhere to capture those kinds of repeated discussions the way CPython does with https://docs.python.org/3/faq/ and https://docs.python.org/devguide/faq.html
