I was previously the organiser and group owner for Hyderabad.pm in India. Here is the associated email for this group: hyderabad.pm@gmail.com.
Around ten years ago, my career took me abroad, and with extensive travel and work commitments, I was no longer able to actively run the group. I'm now considering reviving Hyderabad.pm. Although I'm currently based in Canada, I believe I can organize and coordinate the community remotely with support from local members in Hyderabad.
After moving to Vancouver, I founded Cloud Native Vancouver, which grew into a successful local meetup. After some time, I transitioned leadership to a new organizing team and took a break from community organizing.
Recently, I was reflecting on my early involvement with Hyderabad.pm. The technology landscape has changed significantly over the years, with much of the developer community now focused on Python because of its widespread use in AI and data science. However, Perl has always been my first programming language and remains close to my heart. That made me wonder whether there is still interest in building a Perl community here in Vancouver.
Would you recommend starting a Vancouver.pm group?
If you think there is value in doing so, I would be happy to organize and maintain it during my time in Canada. I currently expect to remain here for at least the next three years. If I eventually relocate back to India, I would ensure a smooth transition by handing leadership over to capable local organizers.
I'd also appreciate your thoughts on reviving Hyderabad.pm. Hyderabad continues to have a strong technology ecosystem, and I believe there may be an opportunity to reconnect Perl enthusiasts there as well.
I'd love to hear your advice and any recommendations you may have based on your experience supporting Perl Mongers groups around the world.
