We need to add an FAQ section to the PURL documentation. This is intended to cover common questions and is not part of the specification.
An example of a recent FAQ is:
-
Question: Is a PURL that's using an unknown / unregistered type considered as invalid, if it otherwise is syntactically correct?
Answer: At this time an unregistered PURL type does not make a PURL invalid, but you cannot reasonably expect tool implementors to recognize or support an unregistered type. The type must be syntactically correct. In the future we may provide a list of unregistered PURL types to avoid, e..g "dll", I would not expect to take that on until we clear the current backlog of requests to register new PURL types.
This document will be added as a new page at the end of the PURL section on the website (after Schemas).
