Different domain verification & storage process for self-hosted instances

Currently, there is a big dependence on third parties when trying to setup a self-hosted instance, one of which being the need to use Vercel when trying to use "custom domain" or store data. In our case, we host our own authoritative DNS & file servers, and the requirement that we use Vercel is a very big hindrance (convenience and security reasons).
