Can't change regional or time zone settings

I love the idea of a completely Ansible-managed device for end user deployment. But as a system administrator testing this out, we can't change any system settings. Documentation doesn't even refer to the vagrant user, much less give any indication of where to find the (hopefully randomly generated) real administrator account password.

How can we make basic changes like adding our own needed time zone and regional settings? And what's the intended approach to, say, authorising VirtualBox to update the guest tools?

Hi @jaknz, that's a reasonable request. We initially wanted the box tied down as much as possible to avoid having to support folk who messed up their install with sudo priveliges, The idea that you might legitimately want some control seems sensible. We will need a think as to how we set this up and limit the access/available config options. The next release of ViPER will be in the middle of 2026 and we will look to address this in some shape or form. Might you be open to testing the implementation before go live?

That sounds really cool. I'd be happy to help test out, and I've done a bit more learning around how Vagrant works as well. Slightly different from what I've used in the past, but similar enough to pick it up pretty easily.
