Hey folks, quick drop for anyone building RAG apps with Haystack.
I love Haystack’s pipeline approach. You can wire up ingestion, chunking, retrieval, re-ranking, and generation in a pretty clean way.
But here’s the part that always hurts:
Your Haystack pipeline runs.
Docs are ingested.
Retrieval returns results.
The generator answers.
And the answer is still off-topic, unstable, or just wrong.
A lot of these failures look identical from the outside (people call it “hallucination”), but the root cause can be totally different:
Instead of guessing, I’ve been using a lightweight workflow that’s extremely low effort:
One image + one failing run → ask an LLM to debug using the card.

It’s basically an “image as a debug prompt”.
You don’t install anything. You don’t switch frameworks. You just save the card.
How to use it
Save the card image (HD).
When your Haystack RAG run breaks, summarize one failing example:
Upload the card image + paste that failing example into any strong LLM and say:
“Follow this debug card. Identify the likely RAG failure modes. Suggest concrete fixes and quick verification checks.”
I’ve tested this workflow with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok.
They can all read the card and use it to classify common RAG failures and propose reasonable fixes.
