Miniature Jet Engine — CAD Design Project

A detailed CAD model of a miniature axial jet engine, designed from scratch as an independent aerospace engineering project. This repository contains the complete 3D assembly and component files.

Overview

This project involved the ground-up design of a miniature turbojet engine, covering all major subsystems from the intake to the exhaust. The goal was to apply aerodynamic and mechanical design principles to produce a realistic, manufacturable engine geometry.

For the non-engineer: a jet engine works by sucking in air, compressing it, mixing it with fuel and burning it, then blasting the hot gas out the back — the reaction force pushes the engine (and whatever it's attached to) forward. This model captures all those stages in a compact, miniature form.

What's Inside

Component Description
Intake Converging inlet geometry for airflow capture
Compressor 2-stage axial compressor with NACA airfoil blades
Combustion Chamber Annular chamber design
Turbine Single-stage turbine driving the compressor shaft
Exhaust Nozzle Converging nozzle for accelerated exhaust
Full Assembly Complete engine assembly with all components mated

Tools Used

  • Autodesk Fusion 360 — primary modelling environment
  • Autodesk Inventor — manufacturing drawings and BOM
  • ANSYS — rotor-stator motion simulation and stress analysis (results not included in this repo)

Design Highlights

  • NACA airfoil profiles used for compressor and turbine blade geometry
  • Parametric modelling approach — dimensions driven by design variables
  • Exploded assembly views generated for documentation
  • Stress analysis performed on rotor-stator interaction under simulated operating loads
