Downloaded chapters are not detected after source removes scanlator

Steps to reproduce

1. Have a manga in your library with existing chapters that include a scanlator

2. Wait until the source removes the scanlator from its chapters

3. Download any chapter has scanlator

Expected behavior

Downloaded chapters should be detected and marked as downloaded normally

Actual behavior

The chapter is downloaded successfully, but Mihon does not detect it as downloaded afterward.

No, the app should know that the source no longer provides a scanlator and stop using it entirely. Instead, it now behaves inconsistently, sometimes using it and sometimes not.

It can't, files are paired to their corresponding chapter by matching 3 pieces of information: Scanlator, Title and URL. If any of those change, the file is orphaned and only not deleted to allow the user to decide on the course of action, whether it be deleting them, renaming themselves or moving to Local Source

I was investigating another similar issue with weeb central extension download being orphaned en-masse. After poking around I found that refreshing the manga makes the app rename the downloaded file to remove the scanlator name. The extension still correctly give scanlator name, and the app still shows the correct scanlator name. So the downloaded file just got orphaned by refreshing. I'm currently on 0.20.2. Previously in 0.19 or less this didn't happen. The extension in question also have no updates before I'm upgrading to 0.20.2.

I have your same exact issue. I tried deleting and redownloading the chapters and they work until the manga updates, either auto or manually, and then the scanlator name is removed from the file name so the app can't read it. The funny thing is, the app still access the downloaded files, if you open a chapter it will open the offline file even if it isn't signed as downloaded in the manga page, but the moment i go offline the app tries to connect to the source before opening the chapter, so it fails automatically to open. With internet, it opens and then it actually reads the file downloaded. I noticed this behavior in my various attempts at troubleshooting.
I was on 20.1 until yesterday but the issue came up like a week ago so it has been present for at least a couple of version now.

A note: this happens for every manga that shows the scanlator name in the library, every extension is affected because i have this problem with multiple sources not only weeb central.

After the latest extension build for weebcentral that fixes scanlator name issue keiyoushi#18147, the problem went away. Refreshing no longer rename and orphan already downloaded chapter. This problem might be related to how the extension (or possibly mihon too) handle determining the scanlator name. Though I'm not much knowledgeable about the whole codebase.

Just updated weebcentral, and happened to me again.

And this an issue that happens with all sources and even to stored-completed "mangas" even if you you set the "manga" in a category set to not update: the issue is that, if for example, you have a "completed manga" (in a category set for not updating) and the source deletes one chapter, that chapter disappear from your library even if you have it downloaded.

Unfortunately it seems to be an app problem, not an extension problem as i am facing it on multiple sources not only weeb central. I am on latest updates of both app and weeb central and it keeps happening

I was trying to go to 0.19 to check which version might introduce this but keiyoushi no longer supports version lower than 0.20.1 (and I don't have the binary that still works on lower version) so i stopped at that.

We don't provide support for outdated versions. Update to the latest Mihon version (0.20.3 as of writing) if you want any support.
