do I understand correctly that connectivity-device artifact doesn't answer the question if the network is working, but only if the device is connected to some network? so to know if device is connected to the interned connectivity-compose-http should be used?

Correct.

Technically internet detection could be added to the Android target via .addCapability(NetworkCapabilities.NET_CAPABILITY_INTERNET). But I don't know if there is an iOS equivalent. In my research it seems the iOS method can only detect network status and not internet status.

In order to keep behaviours on both platforms the same, I excluded the check for internet on Android. I suppose I could add an optional flag for Android that would enable checking for internet too.

Do you use this cross-platform, or just Android?

In case we need to check on both platforms if the internet is available, can we rely on connectivity-compose-http only? or we should use both, because connectivity-device would say not connected dramatically faster/computationally less expensive than connectivity-compose-http would?

connectivity-device will only check network connected status. So yes, if you need to check if internet exists on both platforms then you will have to use the http artifact.

The http artifact makes a quick request to some predefined endpoints to check if they are reachable. You can define your own endpoints if you want. But yes this could be slower as it tries to make the http request. I believe the timeout period is pretty short, so it determines status relatively quickly.
