Improvements to template loading in HM Rewrites API

Hi,

Very good work on the rewriting helper :). I have some improvements on my mind :

• Add ability to have multiple templates with an array for fallback
• Using the locate_template or get_query_template function for the child themes instead of include

They are both good ideas, what would be the main reason for having multiple templates? For if one of the templates didn't exist?

Hi,

Yes this is for the template not existing, like the template archive process on WordPress.
For example if you have a rewrite rule for letters archive, you can have array like this :

$current_letter = get_query_arg( 'my_letter_arg' );
$templates = array(
'letter-'.$current_letter,
'letter' );

This will load the letter specific template if present, and the global template if not :).
I don't know if this is possible on current state but it could be usefull ;)

Yeah thats a cool idea and shouldn't be difficult to implement.

Good ideas - for locate_template(), need to make sure template files outside of themes still work (using absolute paths).

Mhhh locate_template load only for themes, maybe a new argument on the rewrite registration function can prevent this.
