After typing owner/owner as username and password, error is "Unable to fetch".

Given I have made no changes to either /gramps-web-api or /gramps-web, what settings are required to successfully login?

Perhaps you wish "steps to reproduce".

1. Start Docker Desktop.
2. Open VS Code. Start gramps-web-api in VS Code.
3. Open VS Code. Start gramps-web in VS Code.
4. Browse to http://localhost:8001/ in Chrome (or Edge, same error).
5. Type owner/owner and click login.

From your report, it wasn't even clear this is about the Dev Container. Thanks for the details.

Since there is a status 500 in your browser console, it means there was an expection in the backend container. Please check the backend VS Code console of the "run web API" task.
