I understand this can seem like a bug, but it was actually a deliberate design choice. Please see the discussion around #313 (comment) as well as #412 (comment). Both choices have advantages and disadvantages, but in general the problem can become arbitrarily complex, so some tradeoffs are unavoidable. What we could potentially do is somehow highlight the duplicate people. |

I'll convert this to a discussion as it's currently intended behaviour, but ideas to improve it are welcome. |

Imho it would be very nice to be able to switch between the two ways of displaying the relationships. Would this be a lot of work to implement? |

I've got to be honest, as someone new to Gramps and Gramps Web, the default behaviour is very confusing. I've got three people in my close family who are duplicated, and the duplicates are not attached to some of their children. I've just spent the last half hour or so double checking that my gedcom imported correctly before I found this thread. As far as crossing lines goes, both Find My Past and Ancestry do this, and neither are confusing. Both have straight lines up to the previous generation, and across to partners or siblings, and they're very easy to follow. This is an example of my extended family from Ancestry: As a comparison, this is a much smaller sample of my family on Gramps Web, with three duplicated people: I'm enjoying using Gramps and Gramps Web so far, but showing people a tree with multiple duplicates is unfortunately just going to confuse them. I think that, like Fantaztig suggested, a way to switch between the views would be very helpful, especially if you could set the default for your own tree for every user :) |

Agreed with this, it would definitely be nice to be able to display remairrages without duplicating people in the relationship trees. It gets complicated when there are half-siblings who don't appear related in the tree due to the duplication, and as if the parents named two children the same name. |

Hi
I'm seeing a bug in the relationship graph when a person has had multiple "families".
In this case, my brother Kasper has had a child in a previous relationship, before marrying his current wife and having children.
When viewing this in a relationship graph, he appears as 2 distinct siblings of mine.
MyHeritage handles situations like this by having individual lines to past relationships, but only showing each person once.
