I wonder if this is doable-- my understanding is that when data is decommissioned, CMR records are removed, right? If not, and CMR keeps some record of decommissioning, we can totally do this. It'd be especially nice if we could identify when a dataset is moved to the cloud and point to the new one. |

At an excellent cross-agency session at ESIP 2025, (https://2025julyesipmeeting.sched.com/event/25egu/federal-partner-engagement-on-public-data-product-changes-south-room-3rd-flr), (slides) the question focused on how (how long in advance, what channels) to share about data decommission with users. Could earthaccess do this for NASA data (with an eye towards also NOAA, USGS data, etc)? Thinking about how we do this in R and python if a function is being deprecated.
