Ensure that all data is in the same Google Cloud Platform region to avoid data transfer costs #5472
Description
In February, our monthly bill for Google Cloud Storage jumped from ~$0 to ~$1k.
The GCS cost is the red part of this chart:
This is because of billing changes related to transferring data between regions. Google had let us know that this change was coming, but we didn't realise the additional cost would be this significant (and it's not clear how we could have known how expensive this would be).
We must address this before the next import. There may be some additional one-off costs to transfer data between regions.
