Current Behaviour

Quest: Death's Challenge

Can click on the Death Knight Initiates' dialog option "I challenge you, death knight!" but nothing happens

Steps to reproduce the problem

Have new Death Knight in their starter zone
Accept quest from Olrun the Battlecaller in Death's Breach
Talk to a nearby Death Knight Initiate (there are several)
Click the dialog prompt "I challenge you, death knight!"

It is a problem with evade reset. The new dynamic spawn system should resolve it.

A temporary workaround I found, for those questing right now, is to challenge the Death Knight Initiates that come running up to the NPCs. They are freshly spawned and don't seem to be affected by the bug.

Well, they are scripted to be challenged. I don't know if it can be called a workaround.

Maybe the fact that they have a personal SAI allows them to reset in the right way, but I'm not sure. The only thing I know is that this is a recent issue, probably caused by the threat system or some other new implementation that broke a lot of features.

This issue will be fixed as a collateral effect of the new dynamic spawn system ported by @Nyeriah.
Until then, the best solution to debug is to kill them.

Anyway, considering what you said, looking back I suppose I did well to import their assault behavior.
