Feedback: Continuous drawing by default until disabled from shapes creation toogle buttons

That's in the masks todo list.
So here are some actions I've thought about to finish the continuous edit mode:

• press Esc;
• Select "Quit edit mode" in the right-clic contextual menu;
• Clic on the pressed shape button to unpress it.

Of cours, any actual action that already disable the mask edit mode would end it.

Do you think about other ways?
Do you have something to say about the continuous drawing by default before I start working on it?

1. I suggest to leave Esc strictly to 'return to lightroom'
2. If a shortcut is mandatory, what about using he letter 'd' for "drawing. Could be set as a toggle to activate/deactivate
3. Select the shape activate continuous mode by default (the icon is highlighted) Deselect the shape de deactivate.

Actually, if using a simple letter as toggle switch 'c' for continuous would be more appropriate.

This is part of our new shortcut system, and non negotiable 🙂 Esc is to quit a mode or go back.

We avoid to use single key shortcut by default excepted F1-F12 keys.

How do is the continuous mode activated at moment? Ctrl-Click doesn't do it for me.

Right now it is not coded yet.

Regarding the shortcut system, do you have a "here is what is being done right now"?

I think having continuous drawing enabled by default is very useful. It would be good to have a unified action to cancel any tool that involves the mouse. Right now I can only think of the following:

• drawing mask shapes
• drawing retouch
• drawing guides in Horizon and Perspective
• the Crop box
• using color pickers

Of course one option should be to click the button activating the tool again to toggle it off. As a second option I find ESC very sensible. At this point, I would be happy enough, but if you wanted to also, have a mouse action, like

I have seen in other tools for right-click to exit the current tool directly, mainly in CAD software but Inkscape has it for Bezier drawing tool too. I see no conflict for any tool in the list above, unless you plan to introduce right-click context while drawing.

I may add that multiple selection, even across different forms, would be nice to have to cancel them at once at a specific area for instance. Now it looks like one has to do it one by one (right-click then delete).

I have implemented the continuous create mode.

@sahlirc : I don't know if it's possible to allow more than one selection

I like this for circle, ellipse, polygon and brush.
For gradient, I think it's not likely someone would want multiple ones, so it might be good to have "one shot" mode rather than continuous here. If this was done, there would still be ctrl+click if multiple gradients really were required.
A minor point - the tooltip says "ctrl+click to add multiple xxx" , which is true, but not the whole truth!
I especially like the polygon drawing behaviour, much better than the original darktable fork. The paths are really clear - could the two dotted lines in gradient be made as clear?

• I think you're right about gradient creation mode
• the tooltips has not been yet updated.
• all dotted lines in shapes share the same building function, they shouldn't be different 🤔

With gradient, the centre line is fine, and like polygon, but the other two lines can be hard to see, depending on your image.

That's fine since it's the result that is important, not the tool.
