What should be the return type when var_names is str?

Currently doing things like `az.hdi(..., var_names=["mu"])` is equivalent to `az.hdi(..., var_names="mu")`. Do we want this to be the case? Should the 2nd case return a DataArray instead? (as if we were doing `idata.group[var_names]` in xarray?
