Use case

I would like to be able to use GraphQL in Linux, Android builds. Especially taking into account the latest news https://swiftpackageindex.com/blog/adding-wasm-and-android-compatibility-testing

gRPC client is built and runs on Linux and Android without problems, I would like a GraphQL implementation of the client

There seem to have been similar ones to this issue/pr request: #3530 #2957 #1534 #3410 #1506

Hi @flymedllva - the prospect for other platform support in Apollo iOS is still the same unfortunately, and while it's great to see Swift expanding onto other platforms it's simply not a priority. It also is not as simple as it may seem. The upcoming 2.0 release does allow us to shed some of the past constraints so hopefully that lowers the barrier to one day getting this done.

We're not against Apollo iOS supporting those other platforms but the contributions will need to come from the community in collaboration with the maintainers for now. I'll leave this issue open for anyone else raising the same issue to comment in here too.

Yes, after the 2.0 release, we can take a look at what would need to be done to support this. While Linux support is not directly an objective of the 2.0 release, I'm hopeful that a lot of the updates will remove the barriers to adding Linux support that we have had to deal with in the past.

Might be of interest, tried to run the v2-alpha https://github.com/apollographql/apollo-ios-dev/tree/660d1f1f2fbafb132d3252c7c45970f313152237 branch under Android/Linux

Overall

• sending a request works (at least the simple case)
• receiving data works (i'm getting a text body in Data) until JSONSerializationFormat.swift deserialize is started

Problems:

• try JSONSerialization.jsonObject(with: data, options: []) as! JSONValue produces different result on different platforms, it is solved by cast in Dictionary<String, Any>, issue: JSONSerialization.jsonObject may have a different behavior when using SkipFuse, a crash occurs skiptools/skip#455
• after that try JSONObject(_jsonValue: value) and inside value as? AnyHashable as? JSONObject and here arises the main problem the solution to which I have not found yet. AnyHashable doesn't seem to work correctly on Linux, I've started an issue about it: AnyHashable behaves differently on Linux swiftlang/swift#82819

Thank you for your research, @flymedllva . I am also interested in using Apollo (as a framework for hooking into AWS AppSync) with Skip for Android. So, this feature would be a huge benefit for my work.

is the problem the use of apple closed source foundation instead of the new open sourced foundation? doesn't seem like there's a lot of external dependencies.

@alessdiimperio, we haven't re-evaluated this since droping a few old iOS deployment versions in the 2.0 release. It's still not a high priority for our team though so if the community wants to dive into it, we'll support it as much as we can.
