GTK+ appears to be worsen over time.

Generally, I think that GTK+ is better because it does support C in a native fashion, unlike Qt which does not support C.
Due to the arbitrary changes of GTK+, that risk earlier obsoleteness of software, I suggest to consider FLTK.
I did suggest this to Liferea as well.
Yet, because aMule appears to be written in C++, then Qt might be a viable choice.
