Collateral Damage -- BBC Sounds

Hello.

The host file has started causing BBC sounds to malfunction. Web pages will load but the player within the page does not.

I have reviewed Internet connections made without the use of the hosts file and with. I have removed all seemingly related entries from the hosts file for host names that are present when BBC Sounds works. But this does not fix the problem.

A working connection to BBC sounds produces a lot of connections to Amazon, Google, Cloudflare, and Akamai related hosts ... and more. There are connections to a number of IP addresses that have no associated host names, some of which do not allow a Whois lookup.

Any advice other than don't use the host file?

It is, my case, the blocking of cdn.optimizely.com that is the problem with BBC sounds.

It is interesting that this connection does not show up with using netstat to show browser connections but it does show up in Google Chrome's Dev Tools, Nework -- Fetch/XHR plus Other.
