Serial Test

I'm trying to make a Serial Connection.
I'm using the SerialTest and SerialReader - Example.
I'm using Eclipse and put pi4j- ... .jar files and pi4j-pipio...jar - files on the classpath as libraries.

In the SerialTest, line 16, I wrote instead of
.device(SERIAL_ADDRESS) .device("ttyAMA0") or .device("10000000cc10b08a")
Both doesn't work.

I get the Error:

After starting I get an infinite loop of:
[SerialReader] WARN com.pi4j.library.pigpio.impl.PiGpioNativeImpl - PIGPIO ERROR: PI_BAD_HANDLE; unknown handle

Can anyone help me?

We are considering to remove serial support from Pi4J, see #308

The jSerialComm library is very well-supported and offers a lot of functionality, it would be a bad decision to try to implement all of this in Pi4J... You can find more info about it at https://fazecast.github.io/jSerialComm/.

Hi Frank, thans for the fast answer. A question concerning your book 'Getting started with Java on the Raspberry Pi' I tried to download the Serial-Example from your book in chapter 12. Hi Andi, good remark about the chapters... Actually there is a difference between the chapter numbering and the table of contents because there are some interviews in between some chapters. I'll rework that for the 2025 version (asap).

So you'll need to check the code in the "Chapter 9" directory for "12: Chapter 9: Pi4J" ;-)
