Automatic source names?

Just tried the app out, it looks real nice, and not having to do the janky media_player combining in HA would be nice. However, I noticed I can't really select a source, it only displays the current selected one. Is that how it's supposed to be, and I have to populate the list of sources myself?

If not, a question - almost all my connected devices use and rename themselves by means of CEC. The HA integration picks up on this. How hard would it be for this to automatically populate this list by itself as well?

Hey @ishioni, thanks for trying it out!

This has been fixed. The dashboard now automatically queries the receiver's available sources (including CEC-renamed devices) via the SSFUN telnet command at startup. No manual configuration needed — it picks up whatever names your devices have set via CEC.

For example, on my receiver it auto-discovers things like "Amazon FireTV", "NintendoSwitch", "LG eARC", "GeForce RTX 4080" etc.

The DENON_SOURCE_NAMES env var still works as an override if you want to customize display names further, but it's completely optional now.

Pull the latest image and it should just work. Let me know if you run into any issues!

Ok, we're getting closer, some of the buttons do work now. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to select any of the HEOS stuff (like Internet radio or Bluetooth). When i set the via homeassistant (with telnet off!) it does show up as active

Normal CEC inputs do work But there's no radio button

Is there anything you'd need from my AVR for debugging? (I have a X1800H)

Thanks for the detailed report! This is now fixed in 8706f26.

Root cause: The Denon telnet SSFUN ? command only returns physical HDMI/CEC inputs — HEOS/network sources (Bluetooth, Internet Radio, Spotify, etc.) are never reported by the receiver, so they were missing from the UI.

Fix: The dashboard now automatically includes common HEOS sources (NET, BT, IRADIO, SPOTIFY, PANDORA, SIRIUSXM, FAVORITES, SERVER) in the source selector. No configuration needed — they appear alongside your physical inputs out of the box.

If for some reason you want to hide them, set DENON_DASHBOARD_HEOS_SOURCES=false.

This should cover your X1800H use case. Let me know if any sources are still missing — happy to add more.

Ok, so i have the buttons, but the HEOS specific ones (bluetooth or spotify or internet radio) don't work at all :( I can switch between the AVR ones like TV Audio or CoreELEC to Online music, but once i'm in the HEOS ones, i can switch to bluetooth or internet radio or spotify

So the HEOS source switching is actually a receiver limitation. When you send SIBT or SISPOTIFY via telnet, the receiver just maps them all to SINET internally. There's no way to force-switch between HEOS services through the telnet protocol.

What we did improve in the latest release (e76e0c2):

Smart source detection: The dashboard now identifies which HEOS service is actually playing (Spotify, TuneIn, Bluetooth, etc.) by reading the HEOS now-playing data. So instead of always highlighting "Online Music", the correct button lights up. For example when Spotify is streaming, the Spotify button highlights and the header shows "Spotify".

Internet Radio browser: There's now a full TuneIn radio browser built into the dashboard. Click the little antenna icon on the Internet Radio button and you get a browsable directory with categories like Local Radio, Trending, Music genres, Sports, Talk, Podcasts, and By Location with country flags. Around 800+ stations get preloaded in the background on startup so search is instant. You can search across all cached stations with multi-word queries (like "antenne bayern rock") and play any station directly from the browser.

Stream quality: The Now Playing section now shows the audio format and bitrate when available (AAC+ 128 kbps, MP3, Spotify Connect, etc.).

Region filtering: Services that aren't available in your region (like Pandora and SiriusXM outside the US) are automatically hidden from the source list.

The switching between HEOS services from the source buttons is something we can't fix on our side since the receiver itself doesn't support it via telnet. But with the radio browser and the smart detection, the experience should be much better now. Pull the latest image and let me know how it works on your X1800H!
