Zooming in on a region for maps

So when we make global maps, the tropics tends to overwhelm all of the detail in the high latitudes for most things. So it would be useful to be able to make maps (both clim and OBS_comparison), e.g. for one or more of the regions that we already have?

How annoying do we think that would be to implement?

On a scale from costs-me-nothing to I-am-definitely-not doing that, I think this might rank as a I-am-not-immediately-thrilled-but-it-also-might-be-quite-doable or possibly as a not-this-week-but-tell-me-how-psyched-you-are-about-this?
