Hello,

is there a way to export parameters with empty values?

If not maybe a swithc in IFC setting culd do the trick.

Thanks for raising this.

Right now, parameters with empty values are not exported to IFC by design. There’s no configuration option for this today. The IFC schema does allow properties with optional/empty NominalValue, so supporting this would be a change to our export behavior.

To better understand your needs and evaluate how we might address them, could you clarify:

1. Use case – What’s the main reason you need empty parameters exported? (e.g. COBie, validation, round-trip workflows, downstream software, or keeping a consistent property structure across elements)

2. Parameter types – Which types should be exported when empty? (e.g. text, numeric, references, identity/material properties, or all)

3. Representation in IFC – How should “empty” appear in the IFC? For example:

   • IfcPropertySingleValue with NominalValue = $ (null)
   • Empty string IFCTEXT('')
   • Or another convention?

Your answers will help us decide whether and how to add support for exporting parameters with empty values.

To answer your questions:

1. We would like to have the parameters prepared for validation and future editing (another project phase).
2. Ideally all parameter types.
3. The 'null' value would be great.

This issue is also reported in Jira as "REVIT-249181" and is currently in the "Open" status.
